LODEWIKUS SMIT
Candidate Attorney
LLB (Stellenbosch University)
Lodewikus grew up in George and obtained his LLB degree from Stellenbosch University in 2022. He joined the firm in January 2023 and was admitted as an attorney on 25 April 2025.
During his time with the firm, Lodewikus gained experience in criminal litigation, general civil litigation, debt collection and administrative law.
Lodewikus has since left the firm to pursue his pupillage at the Cape Bar as an advocate. While we were sorry to say goodbye to him, we are proud to have been part of his professional journey and wish him every success in this next chapter. We have no doubt that he will make an excellent advocate.
Megan Smit
Attorney
LLB (Stellenbosch University)
Megan obtained her LLB degree from Stellenbosch University in 2022 and joined the firm in January 2024. She was admitted as an attorney on 7 November 2025.
Megan has experience in debt collection, administrative law and general litigation, with a particular interest in local government and municipal matters. She is also passionate about property law and is actively developing her expertise in this area.
Megan has completed a conveyancing course and will write her conveyancing examinations in 2027. Her long-term goal is to establish a dedicated property law and conveyancing department within the firm.

At Nico Smit Incorporated we are proud to have a 12-member team of professional, loyal, dedicated, hard-working support staff, some of whom has been with the firm for the better part of 18 years. Combined, these ladies all have a wide range of experience in a variety of legal fields.

Jannine Petersen

Jannine joined the firm 4 years ago and is our exceptional and always-friendly, patient and helpful Receptionist. She is in control of all the diaries of the attorneys and handles account payments and much more.
Leonie Jacobs

Leonie joined the firm 18 years ago and is one of our Collections team. She is a very caring, spontaneous and approachable person. If you do not know who to contact regarding the letter of demand or summons that you have received, you may contact Leonie.
Mariana Swart

Mariana joined the firm 4 years ago and is our General Litigation secretary and the person responsible for debtor accounts. She is a very experienced legal secretary with more than 30 years’ experience obtained at various law firms. She is our local provider of laughter and can always be counted upon to lighten a stressful moment.
Jo-Verdene Gunn

Jo-Verdene joined the firm 5 years ago and is our Estates and Transfers go-to lady. She is a very experienced legal secretary with more than 20 years’ experience. She always goes the extra mile for her clients and goes out of her way to assist.
Marietjie Kruger

Marietjie joined the firm 9 years ago and is our Local Government and Administrative Law legal secretary. She has a degree in communications and is our unofficial office manager and in-house bookkeeper. She is an experienced legal secretary with 30 years’ experience obtained at various law firms. She quietly but very efficiently keeps the office running and may be contacted for all creditor related matters.
